Continuing with my coverage of STLFW, first up for the runway shows was the Emerging Designer’s Competition! Hosted and presented by the Saint Louis Fashion Fund and Brown Shoe Company, six up and coming designers were given the chance to show their collections in front of an elite panel of judges, led by none other than THE Fern Mallis (who was sitting directly across from me btw)! All six were vying to win the $15,000 prize but only one would walk away this year’s winner (how very ANTM!)!
Before the show guests were able to view and vote for who would win the $2,500 “Designer’s to Watch” competition. This was a fashion presentation of some pretty talented designers, including Michael Drummond from Project Runway! As we all nibbled on appetizers, we made sure to snap the best pictures and vote for the one who we thought brought it! Truly Alavarenga won the grand prize and I could totally see why! That tulle skirt and mermaid gown was simply gorgeous, not to mention her personality made it a no brainer when it came to my vote!
I was all about rocking a hat and some patterned tights for my look for the night. I probably went back and forth about 10 times on what the look would be but in the end I settled for a kimono, black leather skirt and leather boots that I borrowed from my lovely mother’s closet (having a fashionable mom AND wearing the same size shoe, let me tell you, life couldn’t be sweeter!).
As we all were getting settled into our seats, you could just feel the excitement of the audience as they were preparing to witness some great fashion. I still couldn’t get over how I was able to view these future fashion stars and all while sitting front row!! After meeting Harbison backstage and getting my selfie (lol) I was secretly dying to see his Spring collection! All of the designers did an incredible job with their collections! We saw everything from stark minimalism, to bold prints, to powerful menswear inspired looks! Wai Ming, Harbison and Daniella Kallmeyer pieces were all on my list of must haves! Check out some of my favorite looks from each collection!

So now I know you’re all dying to know, who won the 15K! Well it was a tough choice, so tough that Harbison was awarded $3,500 as second runner up! I was stunned at first because I think we all were immediately cheering when his first look came out, but after careful deliberation the winner of the competition was the incredibly talented Daniella Kallmeyer! Her minimalist and fashion forward pieces won over the crowd and judges hearts and it was such a joy to witness someone with a passion for fashion design win the top prize!
It was a night full of fun and great fashion! One that I could easily do every night if I could!
More STLFW recaps coming soon! 😀
Here are some other pics from the night! 😀
